Disney Hatch’N Heroes Toy Review

Disney Hatch'N Heroes Toy Review

Disney-themed Hatch’N Heroes convert popular characters from an egg-shape into a functional toy that can be manipulated easily by little hands. These toys are geared for ages 4-7, though my 11-year old was interested in them as well (just to see how they worked mostly, not for imaginative play though). We received Lightning McQueen from Cars and Woody from Toy Story, two of my son’s favorite movies! Naturally his eyes lit up when he saw these great new toys inside the box.

The back of each box shows step-by-step how to convert each of the Hatch’N Heroes.

Woody converted the easiest for my nearly-four year old. I have to admit, it’s a little odd to see Woody missing his head!

Lightning McQueen was a little trickier to convert. There are some small parts to manipulate, including turning out the tires, flipping over the fin in back and flipping up the windshield.

My son needed help at first getting the parts into position (without pulling the toy apart!)

My favorite feature, Lightning McQueen’s mouth opens to give a smile, ka-chow!

Here is our video review –

We Liked –  Because of the compact size and reasonable price point (around $6.99) these toys make for a great stocking stuffer or small gift. I’ve mentioned before how I like having a small toy to use as a souvenir when leaving Disney Parks so my little one is distracted on the way out. Hatch’N Heroes are perfect for this! Also the characters available are current and collectible.

We Didn’t Like – How easily some of the smaller pieces, like the tires and boot parts popped off while changing the shapes. After a while my son got the hang of it and realized that he needed to manipulate them much more gently. But for the first 30 minutes I was constantly popping pieces back into place.

Let’s get hopping! Mickey & Minnie Easter Plush from the Disney Store

Baskets and Backpacks

As cute as a wicker basket is with a giant handle, you have to remember that you’ll need a place to store that basket the other 11 months of the year! I like choosing items that are on the smaller side or that can break down easily into a storage bin. My kids own fabric Easter baskets like these, sold on Etsy and Amazon. They are lightweight and easy to carry on an egg hunt and can hold a nice amount of goodies!

For older kids, think outside of the basket and find clever and useful items that can be filled with Easter goodies like this Tsum Tsum cross body bag or Star Wars light up backpack.

Something Practical

Now, for the goodies to stuff inside! I like to start with something sweet and practical that my sweeties can wear after church on Easter Sunday. Thumper Tee from Disney Store or Peep tee from Amazon

DIY Gifts (and Save!) – Make Your Own Cloth Napkins

DIY Christmas gifts - Make your own Cloth Napkins

I love a pretty table setting, don’t you? Since we eat at home 99% of the time, it’s important to me that my table look inviting and lovely (even if we’re just eating yesterday’s leftovers!)

One of the ways I set a homey table on a budget is by making my own cloth napkins. Not only do I save money by not purchasing paper products, I also have a pretty presentation for every home-cooked meal! I have about a half-dozen napkin sets that coordinate with my basic colored place mats and I just simply toss the napkins into the wash with my dishtowels after dinner.

These cloth napkins are super-simple to make and are a lovely hostess gift. Coordinate them with your seasonal decor. Tie up a set with a raffia-ribbon to gift during the holidays!

I recommend using high-quality cotton quilting fabric for your napkins. Stains will come out more easily in the wash and you won’t have to press them after a tumble in the dryer.

I have been using the same pattern for years, from seamstress and fabric designer Heather Bailey. Her template for easy-to-do mitered corners is so helpful! And if you need beautiful fabrics, she sells them on her website too.
